Mother's Day
This Sunday we celebrate Mother’s Day; and it’s certainly going to be a little different again this year. 💐
‘Mothering Sunday’ originated from a time when people returned to the church, in which they were baptized, or attended, as children. This movement reunited families and, over time, it became customary for young people, working as servants in large houses, to be given a holiday on this day to visit their own Mum. They often took gifts of food or clothing, which in turn, developed towards the modern day we know today.
Did you know that while ‘Mothering Sunday’ originates from the UK and Ireland, American social activist, Anna Jarvis, was behind the creation of the event ‘Mother’s Day’ we currently celebrate? Ideally following on from International Women’s Day, Anna Jarvis’s mother dedicated her life to motherhood, pre-Civil War, and following her death in 1905, Anna Jarvis fought for an official holiday to honour the sacrifices mothers made for their children at this time.
If you’ve struggled to see your Mum much in the pandemic, Mother’s Day this year could highlight the joy of being together again. We’ve all missed our Mum’s throughout this period and simply spending time in each other’s company is enough for us! A lot of the things we enjoy most have been off the cards in the last year but it’s still possible to create the perfect day by reinventing the definition of chilling at home; check out our full guide to local gifting here >> Falkirk Delivers Mother’s Day Gift Guide.
If you’ve been lucky enough to see lots of your Mum during lockdown, you’ve possibly been stuck in the same routines every day. Same house, same walk, same food (if we’re feeling lazy) so what about gifting Mum with the chance to love where you live again? We currently have a fantastic District Towns Gift Card up for grabs which can provide you with variety and the option to continue supporting local. You could discover new places you didn’t know existed, get a takeaway from the restaurant your Mum has fancied (or you’re craving), or purchase from the independently owned boutique that has a beautiful variety of one-of-a kind gifts. Sound like the perfect pressie to you? We certainly think so and you can get purchasing here >> District Towns Gift Card.
Regardless of your plans this weekend, remember that creating wonderful memories is what matters most. Don’t forget to take lots of pics, laugh your faces off, and enjoy the moment in time. To Mums everywhere, you’re doing an incredible job and we salute you. Enjoy this wonderful day for celebrating the female relationships in your life and the power and support only they can provide. Happy Mother’s Day!
