Falkirk Arts Festival

Falkirk Arts Festival

The Inaugural Falkirk Arts Festival will be held at the in Falkirk town centre from the 21st to 29th September 2019. The idea is to support local business within the town by creating an interesting and diverse programme of events that encourages people to come to town and linger and enjoy all that is on offer.

This free event features exhibitions by established and emerging artists, local creators, crafters stalls, as well performances to celebrate music, drama and dance taking place throughout the 9- day event. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to shop the work of 30-plus artists and makers who work with an array of mediums from jewellery, fibre, glass, and ceramics to photography, watercolour, and mixed media. Carmuirs Primary School and Falkirk High School have taken part in our School’s competition, which is judged by Clr. Pat Reid and Michael Matheson MSP, the winners of which will be displayed in shop windows around the town. Budding artists will have the opportunity to go out to sketch and paint any aspect of Falkirk in our Painting Challenge.

The festival kicks off on the 21st with the Yarn Bombing of Falkirk Town Centre and Camelon & District Pipe band will also be marching at 2pm down the High Street and will continue with workshops, performances and gaiety for 9 days.

About Falkirk Arts Festival
The planning for Falkirk Arts Festival began 5 months ago after a conversation about the decline in Falkirk’s Hight Street. Marjory Sime came up with the idea ‘fill the empty shops with art!” thereby supporting local arts, which has seen funding cuts, and local town centre businesses who are battling the demise of the High Street caused by large branded companies pulling out.
