Town Centre Investment

Following the commitment from Falkirk Council to invest in a new HQ and Arts Centre in Falkirk Town Centre, a series of workshops have taken place over the last 9 months, with strategic partners and Investors. Falkirk Delivers Manager, Alex. Fleming and Chair, Brian Flynn have attended these, representing our town centre businesses.

These workshops, facilitated by Scottish Futures Trust and Architecture and Design Scotland, have led to the establishing of a Revitalising Falkirk  town centre partnership and creation of a work plan to carry forward the plans for significant change, short, medium and longer term for our town centre. A town centre forum will also be established to support communication and receive updates on progress.

The recent award of £1.9m from  Scottish Government’s Town Centres Capital Fund to Falkirk Council will begin to see the implementation of some of the “quick wins” from the Revitalising Falkirk work plan with investment in town centre wifi, allowing for a much more digitally engaged town centre. It will see further investment in the historic fabric of our town centre, following on from the significant work undertaken by the THI and also the siting of luggage lockers for those visitors who wish a bit more freedom to explore the town centre.

Alongside these positives steps forward for Falkirk Town Centre was the news of the development of the Gateway site between the College and the Kelpies. Falkirk Delivers staff and Board have heard concerns form many of our town centre businesses on the potential for what is eventually located on this site to further dilute spend and footfall in the traditional town centre. A delegation from Falkirk Delivers is due to meet with the leader of the Council to put forward those concerns and seek assurances on how this investment will benefit the area and not be to the detriment of the town centre, given all the positive steps forward made recently.
