Falkirk finalists in National Best Bar None Awards 2015-16

Four venues in Falkirk have been chosen as finalists in the Best Bar None Scotland National Awards 2015-16 to find the best licensed premises in the country.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow on Thursday 24 March 2016.

The prestigious National Awards rewards the best of the 400 plus Best Bar None accredited venues in Scotland. Falkirk finalists are: Sporsters (Bar), Behind the Wall (shortlisted in two categories: Independent Bar and Heart of the Community), City Nightclub (Night Club) and Corbie Inn (Heart of the Community).

The Best Bar None scheme, which is sponsored by Diageo, Molson Coors, Heineken, Tennents, Maxxium and Chivas Brothers is an integral part of the Safer Areas Initiatives throughout Scotland. It has been created through the partnership working of Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, suppliers, The Scottish Licensed Trade Association, the security industry and Scottish Government to celebrate and reward licensed premises in looking after their customers and helping to improve Scotland’s night time economy.

Accreditation to the scheme shows the venue and its staff have met a level of standards that assures members of the public they will be able to enjoy a safe and welcoming atmosphere.  The National Awards recognise best practice, leading to an enhanced experience for customers.

Sarah McKenzie, Coordinator for Best Bar None in Falkirk, said:

“The Best Bar None National Awards is one of the most important dates in the Scottish licensed trade calendar. I am delighted that four venues in the Falkirk area have been chosen as finalists. This is real recognition of the effort that owners and managers of local pubs, clubs and hotels put into ensuring best practice at their venues for safety, responsibility, staff training and concern for the community.

“Anyone looking for a good, safe night out in Falkirk should look out for a Best Bar None venue knowing it has been through a rigorous accreditation process and demonstrated high standards across a range of important criteria.”

There are eleven categories within the award scheme: Pub, Independent Pub, Bar, Independent Bar, Hotel Bar, Night Club, SEV (Specialist Entertainment Venue), Best Use of Innovation, Best Public Health Initiative, Heart of the Community and Newcomer.

Arlene Campbell, National Lead for Best Bar None Scotland, said:

“The Best Bar None Scotland Awards get bigger every year and have become the recognised badge of high standards in the licensed trade.

“The Awards are tangible proof that Best Bar None is raising standards within the licensed trade across Scotland and judging is sure to be tough this year with such high standards shown across the country.

“I congratulate the venues across Scotland who have reached the finals and wish them well on the night.”

The focus of the Best Bar None scheme is on public safety and customer care, together with the following key principles: prevention of crime and disorder, securing public safety, prevention of public nuisance, protecting and improving public health and the protection of children from harm.

Licensed premises that wish to join Best Bar None are assessed by trained, impartial assessors and applicants are scored according to national guidelines. A panel of judges assess the applications and confirm that all applications have met the required standard. Venues are awarded in Falkirk with either a Gold, Silver or  Accredited award and an overall winner is selected in each category and go forward to the National Awards. For more information on BBN Falkirk please email info@falkirkdelivers.com
